
C. Herbert Duncan earned his music education degrees from Central College, Fayette, Missouri, (BME) and the University of Kansas, Lawrence, (MME).
In addition to his 31 years as an active high school band director he organized community, regional and state-wide bands which performed for area and national events.
In 1964, he was asked to start the band program at the newly established University of Missouri - St. Louis. He did this while maintaining his high school position.
The St. Louis Municipal Opera Association (The Muny)commissioned Duncan to organize bands for eleven different musicals, including six different productions of The Music Man.
In 1971 he was the co-founder of the Greater St. Louis Marching Band Festival bringing together 48 high school bands from three states to perform in an indoor NFL stadium with adjudication by nationally recognized band directors. The festival celebrated 40 years in 2011.
C. Herbert Duncan has received the:
